My Experience of the X-Factor has always been catching the odd show at the audition stages and laughing as mouthy chavs with no talent get told they can\u2019t sing. We all love it! Then once they’ve selected the ones that they can give lessons to and who can make an acceptable performance I lose interest.<\/p>\n
However I’ve recently been able to experience the X Factor in a whole new way thanks to the help of my old college mate; Rhydian.<\/p>\n
It’s been my first experience of actually knowing someone that’s made an impact on a television talent competition. I can now see how the producers portray them on the show. Let me first state the facts, as I know them:<\/p>\n
Rhydian is a very talented classically trained singer with a great deal of confidence, drive and passion. Those people who come to the conclusion that CONFIDENCE + TALENT + PERFORMANCE = ARROGANCE are typically those people who can’t differentiate fact from fiction and who think Tom Hanks is actually a cartoon Cow Boy or Tom Cruise is a secret agent rather than a short git.<\/p>\n
Being set up as “the most conceited person I’ve ever met” and “truly arrogant” by the judges from the early stages of the competition, Rhyd was shown as the villain. Along with some leading questions and clever editing in one-to-one interviews that role was well cemented.<\/p>\n
But before long, as he’s reached the final few shows and looked like the clear winner, they have turned him into a reformed villain which Joe public love!!<\/p>\n
I only hope that when Rhyd has finished this competition that his shelf life lasts longer than those competition winners before him like … … erm … that one… or those girl???. Or was it? … or … well, the former winners of such competitions that have won a place in our hearts and minds forever.<\/p>\n
