But the main problems that conductors give musicians are the way that they bring you in or keep the beat.<\/p>\n<p>So is it worse being given too much information or too little.<\/p>\n<p>To Little:<br \/>\n&#8220;Where exactly do you come in and are you meant to guess where the beat is?&#8221;<br \/>\nThe problem isn&#8217;t really that they don&#8217;t give you enough information, but more that they don&#8217;t give you enough of correct information.<\/p>\n<p>I know some conductors who just start the musicians off and let them play themselves; this is great (if the musicians are good enough) however if the conductor doesn&#8217;t have enough confidence they will interject here and there and just create confusion!<\/p>\n<p>To Much:<br \/>\n&#8220;I can subdivide even if you do conduct in 2, I don&#8217;t need this frantic 4!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Being told where every beat is makes the music speed up and gives it a more frantic feel than is necessary. The main problem is it&#8217;s just frustrating for the musicians and mildly insulting (like being spoken to slowly and deliberately as if you&#8217;re a fool).<\/p>\n<p>Again this is a confidence thing as the conductor being unable to relinquish control.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not really a conductor so I can only comment from the musician side of things and just say have some confidence in who you&#8217;re leading and then just guide them.
